Highest totals in the history of T20 World Cup

On June 18, West Indies recorded the fifth-highest total in the history of the T20 World Cup during their last group fixture against Afghanistan. The match took place at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia on Tuesday, June 18. West Indies came up with a history-creating total of 218 runs and went on to register one of the biggest wins by a margin of 104 runs.

Sri Lanka vs Kenya: 260/6, T20 World Cup 2007

In the eighth match of the ICC World Twenty20, 2007 at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, Sri Lanka posted the highest score in the history of the ICC tournament. Batting first, the Islanders posted 260 runs for six wickets over a weak Kenya and went on to win the game by 172 runs after restricting their counterparts to just 88 runs.

England vs South Africa: 230/8, T20 World Cup 2016

In the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup, England scripted history with their highest run-chase in the history of the tournament in a game at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Englishmen achieved the feat against South Africa in the group-stage match. The game saw Jason Roy and Alex Hales put on 48 runs, which later saw Joe Root and Jos Buttler put on 75 runs. Root played a knock of 83 runs from just 44 balls.

South Africa scored one of the highest totals in T20 World Cup history against England in the 2016 edition in Mumbai. South Africa batters displayed remarkable knocks along the likes of Hashim Amla’s 58 off 31, Quinton de Kock’s 52 off 24 along with JP Duminy’S 54* off 28. The Proteas compiled 229 runs for the loss of four wickets, which was successfully chased by England.

In the 21st match of the T20 World Cup 2007 played in Durban, India batted first and posted 218 runs for the loss of four wickets. In return, England were restricted to 200 with the loss of six wickets. The game saw several records being created including Yuvraj Singh hitting most sixes in an innings in T20Is for India.

T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosts West Indies played a history-creating knock against Afghanistan in their last group-stage game. In the game, Nicholas Pooran scored 98 runs in just 53 balls on the back of six fours and eight maximums. West Indies won the match by a huge margin of 104 runs.
