Sri Lanka T20I skipper Wanindu Hasaranga opened up on the team’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Not only this, but he also made some shocking claims stating that a few cricketers were behind social media pages criticising the Islanders’ performance. Sri Lanka, the former champions failed to make it through to the Super Eight after registering only one win in their four group-stage games.
While they registered an 83-run win over the Netherlands in the last group-stage game, the damage was already done. After their elimination, Hasaranga and Co were heavily criticised for their under-par performance by fans and experts. In a recent interview, Hasaranga acknowledged the performance and took an indirect dig at experts and a few cricketers who were allegedly behind social media attacks.
Some cricketers created social media pages to attack us: Hasaranga
Hasaranga claimed that a few cricketers created social media pages to attack the former T20 world champions. He was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying, “We didn’t play well, and that’s why we lost matches. I don’t want to talk about social media.”
The 26-year-old added, “We know who is behind these posts. There are some people who create pages and post such criticisms just to obtain a higher reach on social media. There are also some cricketers behind this. We cannot do anything about social media.”
