Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir , who recently took the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title, but this time as a mentor, is the frontrunner to take the Head Coach role with the Men in Blue. Although reports revealed that Gambhir was interviewed for the role on Tuesday, June 18 by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) , new reports added a twist to the story.
In one of the reports citing News18, WV Raman also emerged as a candidate to have interviewed for the post of head coach. Although, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t put out a statement in regard to the same, WV Raman took to social media, reacting to the rumours.
Taking to X (formerly called Twitter), the 59-year-old, who previously served as India Women’s head coach, dropped two words “Oh dear!!” grabbing eyeballs from all over.
It is to be noted that Raman has been one of the accomplished coaches in India. The 59-year-old took the Women in Blue to the T20 World Cup final for the first time ever during his tenure from 2018 to 2021. Notably, it is the only time till date that the India Women have reached the final of a Women’s T20 World Cup.
However, on the contrary, when it comes to Gautam Gambhir, is the favourite to take over the reins from Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ends with the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. The next head coach of the Men in Blue will begin their tenure in July 2024, which extends till December 31, 2027.
