Australia kick-started their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup2024 Super 8s campaign against Bangladesh with a dominant win that took them over India in the Group 1 standings. During the match, Pat Cummins made history after taking the first T20 World Cup 2024 hat-trick and joined Brett Lee as the two Australian bowlers to take a T20 WC hat-trick.
After winning the toss, Australia invited Bangladesh to bat first and restricted them to 140 runs at a loss of eight wickets at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda. Pat Cummins claimed a hat-trick over two overs as he picked two wickets on the last two deliveries of the 18th over and completed his hat-trick on the first ball of the final over.
On the penultimate delivery of the 18th over, Cummins bowled a slower one and Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah attempted a pull but the ball hit the stumps. The Australia pacer dismissed Mahedi Hasan on the next ball as Adam Zampa caught him on the deep third. In the last over, Cummins started with a slower ball and completed his hat-trick as Josh Hazlewood caught out Towhid Hirdoy at short fine leg.
