Hat-trick for Pat-trick: Fans react as Australia’s Cummins takes hat-trick against Bangladesh in T20 WC’24

Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins took a hat-trick in the Super 8 Group 1 clash against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 31-year-old took the wickets of Mahmudullah Riyad, Mahedi Hasan, and Towhid Hridoy in three consecutive balls across his two overs, playing a key role in Australia’s 28-run win on the DLS method.

After winning the toss at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia, decided to send Bangladesh in to bat first. Mitchell Starc castled Tanzid Hasan to give his team the perfect start in the first over before Litton Das and the captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stitched together a 58-run stand for the second wicket.

But from that point onwards, Bangladesh lost wickets continuously, scoring only 140/8 in their allotted overs. The good innings from Towhid Hridoy of 40 off 28 with two fours and two maximums came to an end in the last over when he became the final victim for the Pat Cummins hat-trick.

The run chase of Australia was marred by rain but David Warner and Travis Head played beautifully whenever the play resumed. They stitched together a 65-run stand for the opening wicket to set up the comfortable win on the DLS method, getting ahead of the target with wickets in hand.
