WATCH: Ravindra Jadeja gets ‘Best Fielder’ medal after India’s 47-run win over Afghanistan in T20 World Cup 2024

The  T20 World Cup 2024  has reached the Super 8 stage with top eight teams paving their way ahead in the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led Team India are unbeaten in the 2024 edition of the tournament thus far and on Thursday, June 20, they extended their winning streak, registering a  47-run win over Afghanistan  in their opening Super 8 clash.

Half century from top-ranked batter Suryakumar Yadav, along with three wickets apiece from Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, India continued their brilliant form in the tournament. After the conclusion of the match in Barbados, fielding coach went about the ritual of naming the best fielder from the game against Afghanistan. 

T Dilip kept everyone guessing as he named the nominees of the ‘Best Fielder’ medal. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya were lauded for their efforts, but it was Jadeja who grabbed the final call up. Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid was given the chance to present the medal and the former Indian cricketer walked straight up to Jadeja to put the medal around his neck. Jubilations followed as Jadeja even lifted Dravid to celebrate this moment. 

Virat Kohli left shell-shocked on Axar Patel being nominated for ‘Best Fielder’

In another instance from the post-match dressing room celebrations, former India skipper and batting stalwart, Virat Kohli, who is yet to bring up his usual best knock with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024, was left surprised seeing T Dilip name Axar Patel among the fielding medal contenders.

The Indian all-rounder also mirrored the same surprising look as Kohli, video of which is going viral on social media.

The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will next take on Bangladesh on Saturday, June 22 at the Sir Vivian Richards National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
