“It’s time…” – R Ashwin shares thoughts on India’s batting vs Bangladesh in T20 WC 2024

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised the team’s approach to batting in the T20 WC 2024 Super 8 clash against Bangladesh. On Saturday, June 22, Men in Blue were up against Bangladesh for their second Super 8 clash at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The game saw Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto winning the toss and inviting the rivals to bat first. The Men in Blue started explosively with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring 23 runs off 11 balls.

Virat Kohli, the formidable Indian batting star who couldn’t score much in the tournament played with the same attacking approach and scored 37 runs off 28 balls. Ravi Ashwin, India’s spinning wizard praised the team’s batting approach and said that it’s time players should adapt to it.

He tweeted, “We are not used to an approach where batsmen throw it away after making 30’s 20’s, but it is about time we embrace an approach like this especially while batting first. Top Intent from all the Indian batters so far.”

Biggest issue is we give hero status to someone and forget: Ashwin backs Gautam Gambhir

The spinner came in support of former India opener Gautam Gambhir who is in links to be India’s next head coach. During the launch of his book “I Have the Streets – A Kutti Cricket Story”, Ashwin backed Gambhir while stating that he is a very ‘misunderstood’ person. Ashwin said, “Gautam Gambhir is a very misunderstood person. It’s all about perception. He is a fighter. The biggest issue with many of us is that we give hero status to someone in our mind and forget about everyone else.”

He added, “This is a sport, not a movie narrative. There are no heroes and villains. Gambhir is a competitor. His desire and hunger to win is unbelievable. I have massive respect for him.”
