After Australian pacer Pat Cummins, England’s Chris Jordan picked up a hat trick against the USA in the Super 8s stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. In a vital Group B fixture, the USA won the toss and asked England to bowl first who were on the mark from ball one.
After being hit for a six, Reece Topley drew first blood in the first over itself. Then came Sam Curran Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone who ran through the American middle order by picking up five wickets. With a score of 115-6, Chris Jordan came up to bowl the penultimate over the innings.
Barbados-born pacer started his over by dismissing Corey Anderson thanks to Harry Brooks’ catch. The 35-year-old bowled a dot ball before cleaning up Ali Khan with an incredible delivery. Jordan then dismissed Nosthush Kenjige on the immediate next ball before completing his hat trick with another clean bowled. The veteran pacer is now the ninth player and the first Englishman to pick up a hat trick in the T20 World Cup.
Glad I was able to hit on the target: Chris Jordan
Talking about this performance, Chris Jordan said, “Unbelievable feeling (to take the hat trick), was good to restrict them. Getting it (hattrick) at a special place (Barbados – his birthplace) is always nice. Glad I was able to hit on the target. Just finished it off towards the end.”
“We summed up the conditions pretty well, we knew they will came hard at us in the powerplay, the USA have been playing well in the tournament. Rashid set up the game at the backend for us. Points first and foremost.”
