India will clash against the reigning champions , England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal 2 on Thursday, June 27, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The Men in Blue made it to the semis after they defeated Australia by a margin of 24 runs in their last Super 8 clash of the tournament. The 2007 winners remained as table toppers of Group 1 with three wins while England came second in Group 2 after they were beaten by South Africa while registering wins over the USA and West Indies.
India will head into the game to secure themselves a final berth and get a step closer to the coveted ICC trophy. In the other semifinal, South Africa will clash against Afghanistan, who will play their first World Cup knockout game. The South Asian team entered the top four after defeating Australia and Bangladesh in Super 8.
Why there is no reserve day for India-England while South Africa-England has one?
The match in Guyana has a 75% chance of rain during the game, which is a worrying sign for both sides. While the first semifinal, between South Africa and Afghanistan, has a reserve day, there’s no such provision for semifinal 2. The match between India and England will start just 48 hours before the final, hence, it is not possible for a reserve day as there is just one day in between the semi-final and final.
On the other hand, the clash between South Africa and Afghanistan will take place on Wednesday, July 26 (according to local time), which gives the teams a chance for a reserve day.
