South Africa and India have undoubtedly been the two best teams in the T20 World Cup 2024. The inaugural champions of the T20 World Cup, Team India enter the final on an unbeaten streak, finishing at the top of the table in Group A as well as Group 1 standings. They then went on to beat defending champions, England in the semifinal of the marquee tournament and setup the finale clash at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
On the other hand, the Aiden Markram-led side, are making their maiden appearance in the T20 World Cup finale. The side beat the likes of England, West Indies to make into the final of the tournament. But, as these top two quality sides take in the field later today, the weather is something which has been one of the major talking points.
What will happen if T20 World Cup 2024 Final gets washed out?
Although, there is no doubt that India enter the final as favourites over South Africa, weather is expected to turn things around in the summit clash. According to the listings on Accuweather, the weather is expected to remain cloudy as well as windy. The probability of precipitation stands at 49 per cent, while there remains 28 percent of probability of thunderstorms.
With this, it seems that the match could get hamper with rain interruptions. If rain completely whitewashes the finale in Barbados, later today, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has kept a reserve day. But the game will only be played on the reserve day if a 10-over match is also not possible on the original day.
But if the possibility of the match being played on the reserve day is also bleak, in such a case, South Africa and India will share the trophy and both teams will be declared joint winners of the ongoing edition. In 2002, India and Sri Lanka shared the Champions Trophy after the final was washed out and no match was possible on the reserve day, with both teams sharing the title.
