After Team India lifted the T20 World Champions title on Saturday, June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, beating the likes of South Africa by seven runs , it was top-ranked Indian batter who received the ‘Best Fielder’ medal. The customary medal ceremony took place in the Indian dressing room after their emphatic win, with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah presenting the award to Suryakumar Yadav .
Yadav, who entered the T20 World Cup 2024 as No. 1 ranked batter in the shortest format of the game, produced a brilliant effort in the summit clash which finally turned the tide in favour of India. With the Protea Men needing 16 off last six deliveries, SKY pulled off a brilliant catch near the boundary ropes, earning accolades from all around.
Just for this brilliant piece of fielding, Suryakumar Yadav received the ‘Best Fielder’ medal from Jay Shah with Fielding Coach, T Dilip calling out his name. “We talk about rising to the occasion in big games, today we didn’t just rise, but conquered today. The intensity, the camaraderie, the resilience that we have shown not just today, throughout the tournament, nothing short of extraordinary stuff,” T Dilip said.
“Like Rahul (Dravid) bhai and Rohit keep saying, like a pack of wolves, we hunted every opportunity that came our way, leaving no stone unturned,” he further added before calling out Suryakumar Yadav’s name for the medal.
