T20 World Cup champions go down: Netizens react to India’s 13-run loss to Zimbabwe in 1st T20I

The Zimbabwe cricket team defeated the new T20 World Cup champions India by 13 runs in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday, July 6. After setting a modest target of 116 runs for India, the Zimbabwean bowlers, especially the captain Sikandar Raza and Tendai Chatara, were exceptional with the ball, sending the social media platform X abuzz.

After being put into bat first, Zimbabwe put up a 115/9 total on the board on the back of Wessly Madhevere, Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, and Clive Madande scoring 20s each. For India, Ravi Bishnoi delivered an impressive spell of four overs, registering figures of 4/13 with two maidens, while Washington Sundar picked up two wickets for just 11 runs in his spell.

During the pursuit of the 116-run target, India kept losing wickets throughout the innings, never seeming to be close to getting over the finishing line. The captain Shubman Gill got 31 off 29, but when Washington Sundar lost his wicket, the last one of the Indian innings after scoring 27 off 34, Zimbabwe players were over the moon on the ground, while their fans celebrated the famous win in style in the stands.
