WATCH: PM Modi asks Rohit Sharma about his dance moves while receiving T20 World Cup trophy

During the Indian cricket team’s interaction with Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, at his residence in New Delhi, the dance from Rohit Sharma to receive the T20 World Cup trophy came into prime focus. When PM Modi asked Rohit Sharma about it, the Indian captain stated that his teammates didn’t want him to do a simple walk, which is why he decided to shake his leg.

Notably, the Indian cricket team defeated South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, to win an ICC title for the first time in 11 years, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Afterwards, Rohit Sharma danced his way to receive the coveted trophy, which was quite similar to the Ric Flair strut and Lionel Messi’s unique walk to take home the FIFA World Cup trophy two years ago.

PM Modi was quoted as saying to Rohit Sharma, as per the Times of India, “Every countryman must have noticed it but Rohit I have seen two extreme things. The emotions could be seen this time and the way you shook your legs when you went to take the trophy.”

“Sir, this was a day we had been waiting for a long time so I was told by my teammates don’t go for a simple walk, do something different when you go to lift the trophy,” said Rohit Sharma in response.

It led to PM Modi asking him about whether the idea of the dance moves came from Yuzvendra Chahal. After a burst of laughter, Rohit Sharma remarked, “It was the idea of (Yuzvendra) Chahal and Kuldeep (Yadav).”
