Tennis legend Serena Williams showed off her roasting skills as she hosted ESPYs 2024 and took swipes at several sporting celebrities. The 23-time Grand Slam winner slammed former Indianapolis Colts punter and media personality Pat McAfee and then took aim at Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
In her monologue, Williams addressed how LeBron’s son Bronny James was drafted by the Lakers with the 55th draft pick. She then jokingly wished Bronny to have a long career where his hairline recede and then surprisingly gets better like his father.
She said, “I truly hope Bronny has a long career… so long that he will see his hairline recede, then, miraculously unrecede, like dad.” Further, Williams spoke about LeBron playing with his son, Bronny and compared it to when she won titles while being pregnant with her daughter. Serena said, “LeBron wants to win a title with his son on his team… I won with my daughter, in my belly. I think we know which 1 is more impressive.”
Just don’t use the b-word: Serena to Pat McAfee
After LeBron, it was Pat McAfee’s turn and Serena called out the former Colts star for his comments on WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark. McAfee had spoken about Clark being protected as she was bringing a majority of the eyeballs to the WNBA.
“What we’re trying to say is, what the WNBA currently has is what we like to describe as a cash cow. There is a superstar,” McAfee said in June. “But I would like the media people that continue to say, ‘This rookie class, this rookie class.’ Nah, just call it for what it is. There is one white bitch for the Indiana team who is a superstar.” Responding to this, Serena, her sister Venus and comedian Quinta Brunson commented, “Just don’t use the b-word.”
