Shaheen Afridi, the Pakistan fast bowler, is reportedly set to face disciplinary action by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for his non-cooperative attitude during the early exit of the team from the T20 World Cup 2024. It is alleged that the 24-year-old wasn’t a part of team discussions ahead of matches in the tournament, which could prompt the PCB to take strict cognizance of the situation.
As per the report from Geo News, apart from the lack of communication with the Pakistan cricket team, Shaheen Afridi was also involved in a heated exchange with the batting coach Mohammad Yousuf. During a training session, when Yousuf pointed out to Afridi that he was bowling too many no-balls, the Pakistan fast bowler told him to do whatever he wanted while minding his own business.
The Indian Express has reported that the Pakistan team officials mentioned the incident involving Shaheen Afridi in the report submitted to the PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, despite his apology for the heated exchange. An official was quoted as saying, “We have to mention all that had happened during the World Cup campaign. It is up to the PCB chairman to decide on the matter.”
The same official outlined the potential disciplinary action that Shaheen Afridi might face by the PCB, and said, “I will rather suggest revoking Shaheen’s NOC for foreign leagues. His demotion from A category contract is also an option available to the PCB. However, the chairman has the final authority to decide on the matter. He has the power to even pardon the fast bowler.”
Shaheen Afridi might also get sidelined from the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh next month if the PCB opts for harsher punishment against him.
