On Friday, July 12, James Anderson, regarded as the greatest pacer in England’s cricketing history bid adieu to the game. Jimmy, as he is fondly called, appeared in the final Test of his career against West Indies at Lord’s, which began on July 10. Anderson bowed out of the format with 704 Test wickets, which is the highest by any pacer in the history. Not only this, but he also picked more than 990 wickets in his overall career.

England secured a big victory over West Indies in the series opener by defeating their rivals by an innings and 114 runs. The game saw England opting to bowl first and bundled out West Indies for 121 in 41.1 overs before being bowled out for 371 in 90 overs. On Day 2, the Englishmen bundled out their counterparts for 136 in 47 overs.

Anderson who was playing his 188th Test picked a total of four wickets in the game and took his Test wicket tally to 704. Not only this, but he also scripted history by becoming the first pacer to bowl 50,000 deliveries in international cricket earlier on Thursday.

As the pacer brought down the curtains on his international career, fans took to X and extended their wishes while hailing the cricketer.

In terms of Test wickets, James finished behind Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708).
