“You don’t need to tell me…” – Parupalli Kashyap recalls how MS Dhoni left him stunned

Indian badminton star Parupalli Kashyap shared an incident where he was shocked by cricketing legend MS Dhoni after interacting with the former Indian captain at a wedding. Kashyap was the first Indian male badminton player to reach the Olympic quarterfinals and clinched the gold medal in men’s singles at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

He is also married to fellow Indian badminton great Sania Nehwal. Coming back to the MSD incident,  Kashyap spoke about how he spotted Dhoni at a wedding and assumed he  might not recognise him as a badminton player. So Kashyap introduced himself as Saina’s husband.  However, Kashyap was surprised by Dhoni’s reaction as they shared a hearty interaction.

On Nikhil Tho Natakalu’s podcast,  Kashyap said,  “I met Dhoni at a wedding recently. I introduced myself as Saina’s husband. I thought I am Saina’s plus one here so some people who follow sport might recognise me.”

“I am a cricket and Dhoni fan.  So, when I met him, he told me ‘pata hai bhai. I play badminton. I know who you are and you don’t need to tell me that you are Saina’s husband.’ He spoke to me like a friend, as if I am his teammate,” he continued.
