Newly appointed Head Coach of Team India, Gautam Gambhir has reportedly requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its senior players to participate in the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. To keep things clear, Gambhir has requested Team India captain, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with Jasprit Bumrah to take part in the upcoming ODI series.
According to a report published by News18CricketNext, this request from Gambhir comes as Team India is set to get an extended break after their tour of the island nation. The Men in Blue will next take on Bangladesh in a home series in September.
BCCI to announce India’s squad for Sri Lanka tour on July 18: Reports
With a lot of questions around Gautam Gambhir decisions and requests after his appointment, the BCCI is likely to announce the squad in the coming days. Sources close to SportsTiger have informed that the squad is set to come on Thursday, July 18. Moreover, a few reports reveal that Hardik Pandya will lead the side in T20Is with Suryakumar Yadav being his deputy or it could be KL Rahul to take the helm.
Whereas a report by Express Sports states that Hardik Pandya has informed that he won’t be a part of the ODI series due to personal reasons.
Notably, India is set to travel to Sri Lanka for a limited overs series, comprising of three T20Is and as many ODIs. While the series will commence with the T20I series, set to be played from July 27 till July 30, followed by the three ODIs, which will be held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from August 2 to 7.
