Out of the total 35 medals that India has won at the Olympics since the 1900 edition, nine have been second place finishes. Till the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India has bagged nine silver medals at the quadrennial Games. Norman Pritchard bagged the first silver medal for India at the Paris 1900. While it was India’s first silver in men’s 200m hurdles, it was also the first silver overall.
India’s last silver came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where India bagged two of them. Ace weightlifter Mirabai Chanu put behind the disappointment of Rio 2016 to lift a total of 202kg and win a silver, Ravi Kumar Dahiya added glory by finishing second in men’s freestyle wrestling.
As the 2024 Paris Olympics come closer, we aim to bring the past, seeing India’s some of the historic wins, including the silver medal victories.
