India’s Probable Playing XI for first T20I against Sri Lanka

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the  15-member squads for both the three-match ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka from July 27 to August 7. In the T20I setup, Suryakumar Yadav became the new captain of India, while Shubman Gill, who secured a 4-1 series win in Zimbabwe earlier this month, is the vice-captain of the national team.

Notably, Suryakumar Yadav had a great T20 World Cup 2024 with the bat after a tough start in the group stage in the USA. The most memorable moment of the tournament for him came in the final against South Africa when he took the all-important catch of David Miller, inches away from the boundary rope, to help India win their first ICC trophy in 11 years.

Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj, have also returned to the Indian T20I setup after resting from the Zimbabwe tour. The three-match T20I series will be the first assignment for the new head coach of India, Gautam Gambhir.

As far as the Indian playing XI is concerned, the usual suspects are expected to start in the first T20I against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 27. The four players who could miss out on playing the first T20I from the 15-member squad are Riyan Parag, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, and Khaleel Ahmed.
