Last Five Olympic Winners in Men’s Basketball

The Men’s Basketball competition was included in the Olympics in 1936. Since then, the sport has been a part of the Olympics 20 times with the United States being the most successful team in the competition with 16 Gold Medal wins.

The USA also won the Gold Medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and will be looking to defend its title again in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Here’s the list of Gold Medal winners in Basketball in the last five editions of the Olympics

5. Argentina – 2004

Argentina won their first-ever Gold Medal in Basketball in the Olympics in 2004. After defeating the most successful  United States in the semi-final, Argentina and went on to defeat Italy by 84-69 in the final of the 2004 Athens Olympics to win a Gold Medal.

4. United States – 2008

The previous 12-time champions at that time, the United States went on to win their 13th Gold Medal in Basketball during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Defeating Spain by 118-107, the USA added another Gold to their Olympic medal tally.

3. United States – 2012

The United States went on to continue their dominance in Basketball in the Olympics by clinching their 14th Gold Medal in the 2012 London Olympics. They defeated Spain in the final to add another Gold to their Medal tally. 

2. United States – 2016

Another hat-trick of Olympics Gold Medal for USA in Football as they clinched another Gold during the 2016 Rio Olympics. They defeated Serbia 96-66 in the final. 

1. United States – 2020

17th Olympics Gold Medal for the USA in Basketball, as they won their fourth consecutive Gold during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They defeated France 87-83 in the final for another Olympic Gold.
