Paris Olympics 2024 Boxing: Jaismine Lamboria suffers loss by unanimous decision in RO32

Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria had to settle for a loss by unanimous decision against Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines. The 32-year-old Filipino star is one of the top competitors in the Women’s 57kg event as she won the silver medal in the inaugural women’s featherweight event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

With this dynamic continuing in the bout,  Jaismine Lamboria struggled to find her accuracy across the three rounds and hence couldn’t rack up significant points. The Indian’s more experienced opponent kept the 18-year-old at bay by not allowing her too many clean jabs throughout the fight. In the end,  Nesthy Petecio registered a  27- 30,  27- 30,  27- 30, 28-29 and 28-29 win to qualify for the Round of 16 stage.

Lamboria is one of six Indian boxers to qualify for the Paris 2024 Games after Nikhat Zareen (women’s 50kg), Preeti Pawar (women’s 54kg), Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), Nishant Dev (men’s 71kg) and Amit Panghal (men’s 51kg).

Talking about Panghal, the 28-year-old crashed out of the Paris Olympics 2024  after losing his Round of 16 bout in the men’s flyweight division at the Arena Paris Nord. The 28-year-old was no match to the skill and precision of the Zambian, Patrick Chinyemba, who advanced to the next round with a 4-1 win on the judges’ scorecard.
