I need to stop crying every two minutes: Andrew Flintoff reveals mental struggles after horrific car crash in 2022

Andrew Flintoff, t he former England captain, revealed his mental struggles after a horrific car crash while filming BBC’s Top Gear in December 2022, due to which he suffered severe facial injuries and underwent surgery. The 46-year-old spoke about how he had nightmares and flashbacks of the accident, finding it hard to cope and crying every two minutes.

Notably, after the accident of Andrew Flintoff, the BBC suspended the production of the Top Gear show nearly two years ago. It also led to the Englishman receiving £15 million in compensation from the BBC.

On the Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour series, Andrew Flintoff opened up about his post-traumatic experience, and said, as per NDTV Sports, “I genuinely should not be here after what happened. I don’t want to sit and feel sorry for myself. I don’t want sympathy. I’m struggling with my anxiety, I have nightmares, I have flashbacks – it’s been so hard to cope.”

I am struggling already and I need help: Andrew Flintoff

“But I’m thinking if I don’t do something, I’ll never go. I’ve got to get on with it. I am struggling already and I need help. I really am. I’m not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes,” he added.

Andrew Flintoff also looked forward to life, talking about how he has gotten a second go at it. He said, “I’ve got to look at the positives, I’ve got another chance, and I’m going to go at it. I’m seeing that as how it is – a second go. But you see that, and it pales into insignificance in comparison. You come to a place like this and you see all these kids, it’s inspiring, because all of them have had hardship in their lives. It’s bizarre, I’m getting quite emotional as I’m speaking…I’m going to have to put my sunglasses on!”

After being a part of the English Test setup at the start of the year in India, Andrew Flintoff is currently the head coach of the Northern Superchargers in the men’s Hundred.
