Government of India introduces ‘Create in India Challenge’ featuring esports tournament, anime contest, and more

The Government of India has unveiled ‘Create in India Challenge’, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at showcasing and nurturing creative talent across various disciplines such as esports, anime, gaming, and visual arts. 

Launched by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, this initiative is part of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) and seeks to provide a global platform for Indian creators. With 25 diverse challenges covering animation, filmmaking, music, and more, the competition promises to elevate India’s creative industries to new heights, offering participants the opportunity to gain international recognition and support.

Create in India Challenge Season 1

Esports Tournament: Organized by the Esports Federation of India, this tournament marks India’s first government-backed esports competition. Teams will battle it out in BGMI, while individual players can compete in eFootball and WCC.

Game Jam: The India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) presents the Game Jam, a national competition to spark creativity in game development. The event has two stages: a 48-hour virtual jam across six zones, followed by an in-person round for the top finalists. Winners will join the STPI’s IMAGE CoE cohort, opening doors for growth and development.

Anime Challenge: Organized by the Media and Entertainment Association of India, the Anime Challenge is set to boost India’s anime and manga industry. This competition includes three categories: manga, webtoon, and anime. Participants from 11 cities will compete at state and national levels, aiming to gain recognition and connect with industry professionals.

Finalists from these competitions will have a chance to present their work at WAVES and gain global exposure. Winners may receive opportunities to showcase their talents on international platforms, such as the Annecy Animation Film Festival and major anime events in Japan.

The ‘Create in India Challenge’ aims to give Indian creators a platform to shine globally. It supports talent across different fields through mentorship, visibility, and networking opportunities, aiming to elevate India’s position in the global creative industry. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is supporting emerging talent and building a vibrant creative ecosystem in India.
