Ishan Kishan likely to join Team India for three-match T20I series against Bangladesh

With the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing their respective squads for the upcoming Irani Cup 2024 on Tuesday, September 24, several reports have revealed that young Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan is set to make a return to the Indian side in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. Earlier several reports also claimed that he will get a nod if Rishabh Pant is rested from the T20I series, seeing the long Test calendar ahead.

However, there still remains unclarity on Ishan Kishan’s return, a lot will depend on his performance in the Irani Cup, where he will play for Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Rest of India (RoI). Speaking of his cricketing stint so far in 2024, Ishan Kishan was dropped from the BCCI’s central contract list earlier this year after he pulled out of the South Africa series, citing “mental fatigue”.

Moreover, he continued to remain out-of-favour after he failed to comply with the board’s decision to participate in domestic tournament. After significant efforts, Kishan proved his worth as he was seen in Buchi Babu Invitational tournament and also played in the Duleep Trophy after missing the first round after sustaining a groin injury. Thereafter, he scored a 126-ball 111 for India C, followed by registering scores of 1, 5 and 17 in the other three innings.
