Paris Olympic Games 2024 displaced nearly 20,000 people; claims local France associations

Months after the successful completion of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, a shocking report have claimed that around 20,000 individuals were displaced from temporary settles. According to a report which was released on Monday, November 4 by a coalition comprising of over 100 community organisation confirmed this news.

Peoples displaced as authorities’ “social cleansing: Le Revers de la Medaille reveals

According to the report “Le Revers de la Médaille” (translated as “the other side of the medal”), around 19,526 people were removed from informal dwellings between April 2023 and September 2024, describing it as authorities’ “social cleansing”. Moreover, this came just as the French capital city, Paris was getting ready to host the quadrennial Games. 

Moreover, as per the report, in order to accommodate millions of Olympic spectators, substantial infrastructure improvements were required, will lead to removing of migrants from areas near the location of the Games. Furthermore, Paul Alauzy, who is a part of “Le Revers de la Medaille” added, “There are images, internal government documents and eviction orders explicitly referencing the Olympic jurisdiction.”

Moreover, several organisation findings have also revealed that 260 evictions from April 2023 till September 2024 took place, showing an increase of 41per cent in comparison to 2021-22. Moreover, several documents support that 4,500 children were displaced during this. Although, these numbers are yet to be confirmed by the French authorities, but it is to be seen that there were stringent protocols implements during the Games.
