3 Reasons why Sanju Samson will shine in T20I series against South Africa

Sanju Samson is often regarded as the next big thing in the T20Is for India. While the cricketer had often struggled with form and been on the receiving end of criticism, his promotion as an opener for the shortest format has been doing wonders. Samson came up with two back-to-back centuries and he will be expected to continue the form in upcoming games as well. Recently, Samson became the first Indian batter, and fourth overall, to score consecutive hundreds in T20I cricket as he came up with a stellar 107 off 50 balls during the first match against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban on Friday, November 8.

3 Reasons why Sanju Samson will shine in T20I series against South Africa

In this article, let us have a look at three reasons why Samson will emerge as the team’s star in the ongoing series.

Risk-taking nature

Sanju Samson is known for his nature of taking calculated risks. The 29-year-old often begins his innings by hitting boundaries early in his innings. He starts on an aggressive note, and he has often been guilty of them. However, now that he has been opening the innings along with Abhishek Sharma, Samson would get more overs which he can capitalise for a longer time and continue his gameplay.

Fiery form as opener

Samson has often struggled to adapt to the situations when his team is in dire need of runs and his batting temperament has been a point of concern. However, as an opener, Samson has been getting the opportunity to set the momentum of the innings and it goes without saying that he has been making full use of it. Samson came up with two back-to-back hundreds, in the third match against Bangladesh and in the first match against South Africa.

Nailing the opening slot

Apart from the current form, Samson has always had a good time batting as an opener. While the RR captain has a poor record in T20Is with an average of 19.30, he recorded one of his highest scores in the format for India came as an opener when he scored 77 against Ireland in 2022. It goes without saying that he has some good experiences at the position in Indian colours.
