The Namibian all-rounder, David Wiese, announced his retirement from international cricket after making his final appearance against England in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 39-year-old, who made his debut in international cricket with South Africa in 2016, arrived on Namibian shores in 2021, and since then, he has managed to change the sport for the better in the country.

During Namibia’s tour to Oman in the summer of 2024, in preparation for the T20 World Cup, David Wiese scored a fantastic fifty off 32 balls in the fourth T20I, which included one four and four maximums at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground, setting up a competitive total in excess of 160 runs on the board. The all-rounder also picked up three valuable wickets for Namibia in defence of the runs, ensuring that they went on to level the series at 2-2 with a comfortable win.
55 vs UAE in 2022
In the T20 World Cup 2022, at the GMHBA Stadium in Geelong, after UAE put a decent total of 148/3 runs on the board, the Namibian batting lineup lost seven wickets without even reaching the halfway mark of the target. It led to David Wiese stitching together a 70-run stand with Ruben Trumpelmann for the eighth wicket, scoring 55 off 36 with three fours and three maximums, but in the last over, he lost his wicket, which led to Namibia suffering a tough seven-run loss.
66* vs Netherlands in 2021
The best T20I knock in David Wiese’s career came in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, helping Namibia defeat the Netherlands by six wickets. The right-handed batter scored 66 off 51, an innings which included four fours and five maximums, staying unbeaten till the end to take the team over the finishing line with an over to spare.
