One of the best cricketers across all three formats in modern-day cricket, Virat Kohli had his worst tournament so far this year. Kohli, who was on fire in the IPL 2024 opened India’s innings in all group stage matches but could come up with scores of 1, 4, and 0. On the other hand, Quinton de Kock scored only 48 runs at an average of 12.
Middle Order: Kane Williamson (c), Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Dasun Shanaka
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, who guided his side to several glories and emerged as one of the best cricketers over the years had one of the worst campaigns this year. The talismanic batter scored just 28 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 87.50. Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan’s aggressive batter was below par during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. He scored only 33 runs at an average of 8.25 in four innings.
Shadab Khan scored 44 runs in three innings at an average of 14.66 and bowled four overs while conceding 38 runs and not picking a single wicket. Dasun Shanaka, on the other hand, could score only 12 runs and picked three wickets in the tournament.
Lower Order: Ravindra Jadeja, Marco Jansen
Indian star all-arounder Ravindra Jadeja who is known for some of his finest match-winning performances failed to live up to expectations this season. Jadeja could not score any runs during the group stage and failed to pick any wickets throughout the group stage. Marco Jansen is another name who was rusty throughout the season. In four games, he could come up with only two wickets and nine runs in three innings.
Tailenders: Chris Jordan, Mitchell Starc, Mark Wood
English fast bowler Chris Jordan failed to make an impact during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. In three matches, Jordan scored 1* run and picked three wickets at an economy rate of 10.87. On the other hand, Aussie superstar Mitchell Starc could only pick two wickets at an economy of 8.80. Mark Wood, England’s bowling star picked only three wickets and remained one of the worst performers of the group stage.
