Roberto Baggio gets robbed and attacked while watching Spain-Italy Euro 2024 match

Former Italian football great Roberto Baggio was robbed when he was watching the Euro 2024 clash between defending champions Italy and Spain. As per the sources, Baggio’s villa was broken into by robbers on the night of the match that saw Italy registering a 0-1 defeat against their rivals. Reports suggest that as many as five individuals broke into his home near Vicenza in northeastern Italy.

As per the Italian media reports, when the 1993 Ballon d’Or winner confronted the robbers, he was attacked and then locked in a room with his family. After the thieves left, the 57-year-old broke down the door and called the police. The thieves stole jewelry, cash, and expensive watches. The footballer who played for the three most successful clubs in the country, Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, was taken to the hospital where he received stitches on his forehead.

In a statement released by his manager, Braggio said, “First of all, my family and I would like to thank everyone for the great affection received. Truly, thank you. In such circumstances, anything can happen, and fortunately, the violence suffered only resulted in a few stitches and a lot of fear.”

Notably, the footballer finished fourth in a FIFA Player of the Century poll in 1999 and holds the distinction of being the only Italian player to score in three World Cups while sharing the position of top goal-scorer for Italy in the marquee tournament. In 1993, he won the FIFA World Player title and was awarded the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
