The Indian women’s compound archery team featuring superstar archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur secured their third consecutive World Cup gold medal. The Indian archers dominated Estonia in a thrilling final at the third stage of the prestigious event on Saturday, June 22. The formidable team qualified as the top seed and took down Estonia’s trio of Lisell Jaatma, Meeri Marita Paas, and Maris Tetsmann with an impressive scoreline of 232-229.
The field comprised 10 countries, where the Indian team got a bye and later took down El Salvador 235-227 as well as host Turkey 234-227 to make it to the final. The Indian women’s compound team has been undefeated this season and won the World Cup Stage 1 and Stage 2 gold medals in Shanghai and Yecheon in April and May this year.
Apart from the team, Indian male compound archer Priyansh will fight for the bronze medal finish later in the day. Speaking of the men’s team consisting of Priyansh, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Fuge, the squad moved past Germany 234-230 and Austria 236-236 but failed to defeat Turkey 236-236 (shoot-off 30*-30) in the semifinals. Not only this but the Indian team was later defeated by France 236-235 in the bronze medal match.
In the recurve qualification round, Dhiraj Bommadevara (689) emerged as the top-ranked Indian male. He claimed the third spot behind Lee Wooseok and Kim Woojin. In addition, names like Bhajan Kaur, Deepika Kumari, and Ankita Bhakat ended the campaign in the 10th, 16th, and 45th spots, respectively.
