The Rohit Sharma-led Team India have come closer to securing the title as they recently beat Bangladesh by 50 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound in Antigua on Saturday, June 22. The Men in Blue defeated their near neighbours, coming close to sealing a spot in T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals.
After being invited by the Bangladesh skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto to bat first, India posted 196 runs on the board, courtesy a good start from the openers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with crucial knocks from Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube. But it was Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 50 that helped them to get over the 190-run mark.
But in one of the instances during Bangladesh’s run chase, skipper Rohit Sharma once grabbed the limelight for his stump mic conversation. The 36-year-old, who has had a history of hilarious stump mic conversation, in one of Kuldeep Yadav’s over was heard telling the Indian spinner to let the Bangladesh all-rounder bat. The incident unfolded in the 14th over of Bangladesh inning after Kuldeep dismissed Shakib Al Hasan.
It was Mahmudullah, who took the charge then in the middle and Kuldeep bowled a wrong one to start things. Kuldeep then wanted to change the field setup, but Rohit Sharma in reply opted to let it remain the same, offering the 38-year-old to get some runs. “Kya hai, khelne de na yaar. Abhi abhi aya hai, aada maarne de na, ek out hua hai,” he was heard saying on the stump mic.

It is to be noted that Kuldeep Yadav has only played two matches so far for Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024. In the match against Bangladesh, he finished with the figures of 3/19 in his four-over spell. Apart from him, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya was among the wickets on Saturday.
The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will next take on Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Monday, June 24.
