Gautam Gambhir to drop Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after becoming head coach: Reports

Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer, who is reportedly set to become the next head coach of the national team, has laid out a few conditions before taking over the role. It has been reported that if Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma fail to win the Champions Trophy 2025, then the team management under Gautam Gambhir will be moving on from them.

As per the report from Navbharat Times, Gautam Gambhir has put forth certain conditions to the BCCI before accepting the role of coaching the Indian cricket team after Rahul Dravid leaves after the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The first condition is about him getting complete control over the Indian cricket team, without any interference from anyone in his working methods.

The second condition was related to Gautam Gambhir getting the chance to pick his coaching staff without any meddling. While the third condition revolved around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma getting their last opportunity to play at an ICC tournament during the Champions Trophy 2025.

If they are not able to secure a title triumph in Pakistan next year in the second biggest ICC ODI tournament in the world, then Gautam Gambhir and the team management will give them their marching orders.

Moreover, Virat Kohli and the current Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, are playing in the Caribbean in the T20 World Cup 2024 right now. A title triumph in this tournament would end a drought of an ICC trophy for the Indian cricket team, which has lasted for more than a decade.
