On Tuesday, June 25, Afghanistan scripted history as they entered their first-ever T20 World Cup semifinal. The Rashid Khan-led side, who thumped Australia, registering a 21-run in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8, continued their winning run as they beat Bangladesh by eight runs to confirm a semifinal berth in the 2024 edition.
The last match of the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s, which was played at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, was marred with several instances. In one of them, which turned out to be a controversy, Afghanistan cricketer Gulbadin Naib was seen clutching his hamstring and collapsed to the ground. With DLS coming into picture due to several rain interruptions, Naib’s injury occurred at a crucial moment when both teams had an equal chance.
Although, the apparent injury got people talking on social media, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan later opened upon it. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rashid claimed that it was a typical on-field injury usually encountered in cricket matches. “Well, I think he had some cramp. I don’t know what happened to him. I don’t know what’s going on, on social media. But that doesn’t matter. It’s an on-field injury,” he said.
“We didn’t lose any over, rain came, and we just went off the field. It’s not something that made any massive difference in the game. We came back on the field in 5 minutes, and there was no massive difference. For me, it was just an injury and needed some time,” Rashid Khan further added.

The Afghanistan skipper, Rashid Khan took to Instagram to share a special post. In the post, which he captioned “Bambai se aaya mera dost 😁 Semifinals 😍😍”, featured team India captain Rohit Sharma.
The Men in Blue, earlier in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s, defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The inaugural champions of the tournament are unbeaten so far and will next take on England in the second semifinal on Thursday, June 27.
