LA Lakers great LeBron James has reportedly agreed to sign a two-year deal with the LA Lakers for a whopping $104 million max deal. As per several reports, James opted out of his existing deal with the club, and as per analysts, the move would free up more money to recruit new players. James was an unrestricted free agent and was expected to return to LA after the side drafted Bronny James.
As per ESPN, James will sign a two-year $104 million maximum deal with the side. However, he was earlier expected to sign a three-year $162 million deal. Not only this but there were also reports of him taking a pay cut of up to $20 million to help the side sign Klay Thompson. However, the former Warriors star chose to move to the Dallas Mavericks instead.
Notably, the 40-year-old has been outstanding in a season in which he played 71 games, which is his most since the 2017-18 season. He also became the NBA’s first player to score 40,000 career points, earlier this year. Talking about the team, the Lakers have had an inconsistent season, with them finishing 47-35 after losing to the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs.
In December, as he turns 40, James will tie Vince Carter this season in terms of most seasons played in NBA history. He averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists last season. James led the side to the NBA title in the 2019-20 season after the season restarted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
