Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat confirmed receiving her Schengen visa for competing in the Grand Prix of Spain 2024 in Madrid. Phogat received assistance from the Government and will be on her flight scheduled for Wednesday night (July 3).
Earlier today, the 29-year-old shared a post on her X account requesting help from the Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the Ministry of External Affairs as she did not have information on her visa. The message said, “Dear authorities, Im requesting for urgent help. I applied for my Schengen visa in Bangalore on 24th June. I have to leave tonight for a competition in Spain on 6th July but have no information on visa. Requesting @mansukhmandviya @BangaloreFrance @MEABharat to help,” she wrote on ‘X’.
Three hours later, Vinesh Phogat received her visa and shared another post on X expressing gratitude towards those who helped her in this process. Phogat tweeted, “I have just now received my Schengen visa. I would like to sincerely thank all the authorities who have helped me get the visa so quickly. Means a lot. Thank you @mansukhmandviya @BangaloreFrance @MEABharat @DGSAI, TOPS and MOC team,” she wrote on ‘X’.
Phogat will partake in her training-cum-competition regime in Spain before travelling to France for a 20-day training programme for the Paris Olympics. The 29-year-old with Anshu Malik and Reetika Hooda secured three Paris 2024 quotas for India at the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and will compete in the women’s 50kg division.
