The Copa America 2024 quarterfinal clash between Uruguay and Brazil went goalless in the 120 minutes and was forced to the penalties. In the penalty shootout, Uruguay defeated Brazil 4-2 to reach the semi-finals while the Selecao were eliminated from the tournament. Brazil star Neymar Jr., who missed the Copa America 2024 due to an injury, appeared to be in tears at a nightclub following Brazil’s loss.
The Al-Hilal forward suffered an injury during Brazil’s 2-0 loss against Uruguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October 2023. Since then, the 32-year-old Brazilian hasn’t played a game for his club and country.
Brazil had a disappointing Copa America 2024 as they managed to win just one of their three group-stage clashes and even failed to score a single goal against Uruguay. Dorival Junior’s men failed to score a direct goal in two of their four matches including a goalless draw against Costa Rica in their tournament opener. After Brazil failed to score against Uruguay, the match entered the penalties, where Uruguay clinched victory. Neymar Jr. was left heartbroken with the loss and appeared to get emotional as his friends consoled him.
