Coco Gauff, the American tennis player, called out the fans for being disrespectful towards the lower-ranked players after her exit from the Wimbledon singles following a loss to fellow countrywoman Emma Navvaro 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 16. In the press conference, the 20-year-old remarked that fans are not appreciative of the depth of quality players on the WTA tour.
Notably, the second seed Coco Gauff has exited the Wimbledon singles before reaching the quarter-final stage, but she is still a part of the tournament. In the women’s doubles, she is slated to play the round of 16 alongside fellow countrywoman Jessica Pegula, taking on the Italian pair of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.
While speaking to the press after losing the Wimbledon singles round of 16 match, the reigning US Open champion said, as per the Tennis Letter report, “I’ve seen and played so many Slams where anybody can win. The seed is just a number. That doesn’t mean you can’t lose. We’ve seen a lot of seeds drop out.”
“We’ve seen defending champions drop out, I think especially on my side of the draw, even though the players may not be as known, but they’re so talented. I think that’s something that people, fans of the game, are a little bit disrespectful (about) when it comes to other players on tour,” she added.
Coco Gauff also spoke how her mind now is on the Olympics, especially on the doubles tournament at Paris 2024. She was looking at how the American team can improve to be a good contender for a medal in the Olympics.
