The Indian cricket team is unlikely to visit Pakistan to take part in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to the political tensions between both countries. The BCCI is expected to pull their team out of the tournament next year, which will allow Sri Lanka to take their spot since they finished in ninth place in the ODI World Cup 2023, just one place behind the automatic qualification spot.
As per the report from the ANI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed its unwillingness to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan. They are likely to request the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate their matches in the Champions Trophy 2025 to the UAE or Sri Lanka, instead of the hosts.
The potential hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025 could be quite similar to the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup if the BCCI manages to convince the ICC to relocate their matches away from Pakistan. India went on to play all their Asia Cup 2023 matches in Sri Lanka although Pakistan were one of the hosts of the tournament.
The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is set to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9 next year. India last travelled to Pakistan to play cricket in 2008, participating in the Asia Cup, which they lost at the National Stadium in Karachi in the final against Sri Lanka.
Apart from Pakistan and India, some of the other teams who have qualified through to the Champions Trophy 2025 include Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and England.
