Ivan Perisic, the Croatian midfielder, has backed Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal to win the Ballon d’Or after playing a key role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 title triumph. In the final of the European Championship, the Spanish football team got the better of England 2-1 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, to win the title for a record fourth time in history.
In his latest story on Instagram, Ivan Perisic congratulated the Spanish football team for winning the UEFA Euro 2024, calling it a “well-deserved” triumph. He called Fabian Ruiz the most valuable player of the tournament before bidding for Dani Carvajal to take home the Ballon d’Or ahead of the players like Rodri, Bellingham, and Vinicius Jr in particular.
The 2023-24 season was an exceptional one for Dani Carvajal for both club and country. Before winning the UEFA Euro 2024 for Spain, the full-back won the La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Supercopa de Espana with Real Madrid.
Notably, the last defender to win a Ballon d’Or before the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo era was none other than Fabio Cannavaro, who achieved the grand feat in 2006.
Meanwhile, the final of the UEFA Euro 2024 was a pulsating affair which saw no goals in the first half. After Nico Williams broke the deadlock at the start of the second half for Spain before Cole Palmer levelled it for England in the 74th minute. The winning goal for the Spaniards came from Mikel Oyarzabal, who managed to put the inch-perfect pass from Marc Cucurella in the back of the net from close range in the 86th minute.
