After a convincing 4-1 series win in five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, Team India is now ready to take on a new challenge. The Men in Blue are set travel to Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series, starting with the first T20I at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on July 27th. Meanwhile, the ODI series will kickstart from August 2nd in Colombo.
It is going to be an interesting series as it will be the first assignment for Gautam Gambhir after being appointed as the new head coach of the Indian Cricket team. Also, with the seniors players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from the T20Is from India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win, India will be playing under a new captain in the shortest format.
Notably, being the vice-captain of India during the T20 World Cup, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely to take the charge in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. All the three matches of the series will be played in Pallekele.
Talking about the ODIs, Kohli and Rohit are also unlikely to return for the ODI series against Sri Lanka and players like Pandya and KL Rahul are in contention to lead India in the 50-over format. However, it is going to be a crucial series for India looking at the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan
