The 2024 Paris Olympics bound Indian contingent have been handed a massive jolt as the Indian boxers, who have been training in Germany lately have been facing health scare. According to a report published by MyKhel, the Indian boxers, who have been based out of German city of Saarbrucken, have complained of illness.
Although the report states that the members of the Indian boxing contingent were also feeling “uneasy”, Preeti Pawar, who is set to compete in the women’s 54kg weight category, was even hospitalised for three days. According to the report, Preeti was unable to practice with the team on arrival in Germany and was even hospitalised before returning to the team’s training camp earlier this week.
It also adds that Lovlina Borgohain, who is one of the prominent medal contenders for the Paris 2024, is also nursing a lower back injury and soreness. An official of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) also opened up stating, “there are minor issues but not worrisome”.
With the Paris Olympics 2024 now less than ten days away, the Indian boxing team will depart for Paris on July 22 and join the 100-plus contingent ahead of the opening ceremony. In the 2024 edition of the Summer Games, six boxers will compete across six different weight categories, which will commence from July 27 with the medal events starting from August 6 at the Roland Garros and North Paris Arena.
