Rahul Dravid likely to return to Rajasthan Royals as Head Coach ahead of IPL 2025

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) making some big changes in their coaching setup after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024, the former Indian cricketer is set to return to his old Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Rajasthan Royals.

Dravid, who was part of the RR’s side in their inaugural title win in 2008, is likely to return. The 51-year-old also has had a long relationship with the franchise, having served as their captain in the Champions League T20 finals and the IPL 2013 playoffs. He then took over RR reigns as mentor of the side in IPL 2014 and 2015, when they finished at third place. “Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, and an announcement in this regard is round the corner,” a reliable source close to BCCI told TOI.

Moreover, this update comes after uncertainty over Kumar Sangakkara’s role in the RR coaching setup. The former Sri Lanka cricketer, who currently serves as the Director of Cricket with the RR, is unclear of his retention and could be relieved with Dravid’s onboard.
