Sri Lanka 16-member squad for T20I series against India; Charith Asalanka named captain

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday, July 23, named their 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India. The two neighbouring nations are set to lock horns in a three-match T20I series, starting July 27 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

Moreover, the Sri Lanka cricket board have named Charith Asalanka as their new skipper after all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga resigned from the post after the side’s dismal performance at the T20 World Cup in June 2024. Furthermore, the squad boasts of a mix of young and experienced players, with Hasaranga, Pathirana being crucial members in the side. 

Additionally, the veteran all-rounder Angelo Matthews have been dropped from the setup but former skipper, Dasun Shanaka has retained his place. Dinesh Chandimal has also found a place in the 16-man side after being snubbed for the T20 World Cup 2024.
