India’s top performers of the day at Paris Olympics 2024

The 2024 edition of Olympics is set to kick off on Friday, July 26, in French Capital, Paris. The tournament is scheduled to officially begin with a grand ceremony in River Seine at 11pm IST (7:30 local time). Paris Olympics 2024 has more than 10,500 athletes representing 206 National Olympic Committees, fighting for a podium finish and get the medal home.

While other athletes wait for the official grand opening ceremony of the tournament, 128 athletes from 53 countries, including six Indians, started their Paris 2024 campaign on Thursday, July 25 as the archery competitions went underway. In archery, there are five gold medals on offer, and all six archers from India will give a tough fight to their rivals.

As the likes of Deepika Kumari, Dhiraj Bommadevara, among others clashed in the ranking rounds on the Esplanade des Invalides, let’s go through the top performers of the day: 

Ankita Bhakat: Women’s Archery Team

On the unofficial Day 1 of Paris Olympics, Indian female archers put up an impressive performance and finished fourth on the points table behind South Korea, China and Mexico. The team consisting of veteran Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur appeared in the qualification round at the individual level and their performances were accumulated for the team rankings as well. 

Ankita emerged as the top performer in the women’s team and finished in the 11th spot with a score of 666. The Indian team totalled 1983 points in the event and booked a qualification spot. Ankita will be up against Wioleta Myszor in the Round of 64.
