Paris Olympics 2024: Lovlina Borgohain clinches 5-0 win in campaign opener; stands one win away from medal

Indian star boxer Lovlina Borgohain registered an easy win in her Paris Olympics 2024 campaign on Wednesday, July 31. The Tokyo 2024 bronze medalist who fights in the 75 kg category took down, Hofastad Sunniva of Norway. The 26-year-old boxer from Assam was given a direct pre-quarterfinal entry in the 33rd edition of the multi-sporting spectacle. The Indian boxer set her dominance right from the beginning and took down her counterpart with the score-line of 5-0.

Notably, earlier Lovlina defeated Sunniva in the 2023 World Championships semi-final but went down to her in the Asiad and Czechia Grand Prix. Talking about the bout, Hofstad got off to an aggressive start and landed quick punches on Lovlina. The Indian collected her and got her much-needed points with some jabs and a right hook.

Lovlina headed into round 2 with a dominating and aggressive approach and showcased her skills while landing strong jabs on her rival’s face. The Indian boxer continued her charge and approach in the third round and emerged victorious, recording a 5-0 win.

In her next bout, Lovlina will be up against China’s Li Qian on August 4. Quian is coming on the back of a win over Hergie Bacyadan 5-0 in her round of 16 clash to enter the quarters. Notably, Qian is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist and the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist.  Lovlina is now one win away from medal and a win her upcoming match will ensure another medal for India in the current edition of the Olympic
