After Cain Velasquez pleaded no contest in the case, a sentencing hearing in the matter is set to go down on October 18, but the actual sentence is expected to happen on a later date. Furthermore, the premeditated murder charges against him will be dropped because of the plea, which would mean that he won’t be getting a mandatory life sentence in the case.

Jeff Rosen, the District Attorney in the Santa Clara Office said the following about the case in a statement, “This defendant decided to become judge, jury, and executioner. His actions endangered innocent bystanders, including young children and their parents who could have been injured or killed as he shot at his intended victim. We have excellent law enforcement in this county. Let them do their jobs.”
