Leicester City have agreed to sign Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent transfer. The 23-year-old midfielder is set to undergo a medical on August 18 ahead of the proposed transfer. Skipp made 24 appearances across all competitions for Spurs last season and was used as a substitute by Ange Postecoglou.
The Tottenham academy graduate has a contract at Spurs until 2027 and was picked for the first team in 2018. Skipp has made 106 appearances for the club. The development was confirmed by the Athletic. Spurs have improved their midfield this summer with the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds, while Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg was picked up by Marseille.
Leicester, on the other hand, lost midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea this summer as they returned to the Premier League after a season in the Championship. Tottenham and Leicester will lock horns on Monday to kick off their Premier League seasons.
Ahead of the clash against Leicester, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglu spoke about a few possible transfers in the ongoing summer window. He said, “It’s one of those things that when you start pre-season, we had quite a few guys who were out on loan last year. Part of me is saying, OK, we need to keep evolving this squad. The guys go out on loan for a reason.
“Have they come back [and now] are they a better fit, are they part of what we’re doing? With Djed, I had an open mind. I certainly think the kind of characteristics he has would fit into our football. It’s then more about, OK, well he obviously didn’t fit last year, will he fit this year?”
