Who is Ronak Dahiya? India’s Greco-Roman grappler to win bronze at U-17 World Wrestling Championship

Indian grappler Ronak Dahiya won the bronze medal in the Greco Roman 110 kg category at the ongoing u-17 World Wrestling Championship in Amman, Jordan. With this win, Ronak opened India’s medal count in the tournament. Ronak, currently ranked number 2 in world rankings, took down Turkiye’s Emurullah Capkan 6-1 to finish third on the podium on August 20, Tuesday.

Before the bronze medal bout, Dahiya had lost his semifinal clash 2-0 against Hungary’s Zoltan Czako. The bronze medal is Ronak’s second medal at the World Championships after he won the silver medal in the 2023 edition of the tournament. Dahiya trains at Delhi’s famous Chhatrasal Stadium and recorded his first win at the tournament over Artur Manvelian 8-1.

He continued his momentum and recorded a technical superiority win over Daniil Maslakou. The wrestler trains at the same stadium that has produced the likes of Paris Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat, Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, Yogeshwar Dutt and Sushil Kumar. On the other hand, another Indian in bronze medal contention is Pardhi Sainath.

Sainath is aiming for bronze in the 51kg repechage round, where he will compete against Munaretto Domenic Michael of the United States. Sainath had lost to Tushan Dashdhimirov of Azerbaijan 1-5 in the opening round.
