Bangladesh team stands by Shakib Al Hasan amid murder allegations; Najmul H. Shanto, M. Rahim share posts

Former Bangladesh captain, Shakib Al Hasan is currently having a difficult time during the team’s ongoing two-match Test series against Pakistan. During his team’s historic win against their Asian neighbours, Pakistan, Hasan was accused of a murder. He has been named among the 147 people accused of murder during a violent protest back in Bangladesh.

For the unversed, the South Asian country has been marred by political unrest against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The unrest was followed by violence, which led to the death of countless people. Rafiqul Islam, whose son died during the violence, alleged that the former Bangladesh captain was involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, current skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto stated that the case against the all-rounder is unexpected. “He’s been raising the name of Bangladesh in the world for 17 long years,” Shanto wrote on Facebook. He also expressed hope for a brighter future in Bangladesh, stating, “Such a case against Shakib bhai is unexpected. In the new Bangladesh, we all want to see something new. I hope all the darkness will pass off and new light will come.”

I don’t support false allegations against Shakib Al Hasan: Mushfiqur Rahim

Rahim, who was the Player of the Match for scoring 191 against Pakistan in the first Test, has also shared his sentiments. He claimed that Hasan would never be involved in such inhumane actions.  “As a teammate and a brother, I will be there during his tough times, and I do not support the false allegations made against him because I know he would never engage in inhumane actions,” Rahim stated.

The former KKR player in the IPL is yet to address the allegations publicly. His participation in the second and last Test against Pakistan, which is set to be played in Rawalpindi from August 30th remains uncertain.
